I have been putting Catholic Social Justice Dollars in my envelope for weeks now. It is a paper promising to give the real money when the Church practices what it preaches and recognizes our UNION. No recognization no real money.

OK...so let me get this straight...you (the union, representing some teachers)...are encouraging people not to contribute to thier parishes? Where do you think the money comes from to pay schools' bill, including teachers' paychecks??? The parish subsidies ($15 million of this year's schools' budget)...where do you think that money comes from? The parishioners! So, if money doesn't go in to the parishes...parishes can't pay their subsidies...school bills can't get paid...more schools may have to close and more teachers lose their jobs. That's what you're after??? That's not very smart - sad having to make that statement to a group of teachers! Perhaps it's time to take a Logic course for continuing teacher education! Be careful that you don't "cut off your nose to spite yourself!"

In regards to the pathetic remarks of the Lone Ranger: Have you no empathy for these teachers? I have put both of my children through the Diocesan schools, and a finer education could not be found anywhere else. I have seen how hard these teachers work. I have witnessed their dedication and expertise in dealing with their subject matter and their kind, genuine concern for each of their students. Where does social justice come into play here? Many have dedicated their entire lives to this system only to be disregarded in their desire to form a union. If the union was a worthwhile entity for Bishop O'Connor (later to become Cardinal O'Connor)to acknowledge and recognize, then Bishop Martino should follow suit. Logic? You question the teachers' logic? One should be questioning the logic of our Bishop. With this stance, not only is he pushing the teachers to the limit, but he is also forcing his fold to question his doings. All of this in the wake of a barrage of school and church closings and a constant restructuring of the system is the most illogical method of doing things. Instead of pulling a community of faithful people together, he is pushing us further and further away from the Church.Consequently, I intend to stand by the teachers in their quest for dignity.
