Hard line of Bishop Martino will drive young people away
The following letter to the editor appeared in today's edition of the Wilkes-Barre Citizens' Voice.
Editor:
I have been following the events of the Scranton Diocese Association of Catholic Teachers versus Bishop Martino from 2,300 miles away and, even at this great distance, I can see in the photographs and hear in the written words that people are simply tired. They are tired of being told what to do and in the case of the teachers, where and how they are allowed to work. And the thing that worries me more than these current events is that our next generation of NEPA Catholics has been subjected to an unwelcoming church — a divided church. On the coattails of the sexual abuse scandals comes a hard-line attitude affecting, again, our children. May the people of the Diocese of Scranton find hope and strength in what is right and may their dear shepherd lead them with the heart of Jesus.
